Receptacals

Steve posted an interesting video on Receptacles - so it deserves a forum thread ;)

For my part, I think this is an interesting area for consideration, but one that's very hard to investigate in a logical manner. I'm sure that the nature of the receptacle changes the taste, but how much of this is psychological and how much is physical, I don't know. I certainly think that my favorite mug has physical advantages (shape and material possibly?) but also psychological advantages (the memories and attitudes I associate it with, the "comfort" factor of a big, solid mug, etc.). These wouldn't invalidate the effect in any way - as Steve is fond of saying, taste is subjective :) - but they would mean that a mug which makes a coffee taste fuller and more "satisfying" to me wouldn't have that effect on someone else... what are other peoples thoughts? and want to let us in on your plans for future experiments Steve ? :P

I need to find a potter of some sort who can make up some "mugs" for me in different shapes is the next one for me I guess. The experiment just came up with lots more questions and I'm a little baffled where to go next with it all.

But its something that I think could be very interesting. Maybe an in my mug "mug" for perfect drinking?

I say dear Board!!

An interesting point. Dear old gran would only drink out of a china cup and this trait has been handed down to me in some sense, one only likes sipping from thinner cups/mugs.
Just got back from the pub and overheard two cads discussing the vitues of 'supping from the hairy cup'. Don't like the idea oneself. Anyone ever drank hairy coffee?
Nay, sound fishy to me....
