For my part, I think this is an interesting area for consideration, but one that's very hard to investigate in a logical manner. I'm sure that the nature of the receptacle changes the taste, but how much of this is psychological and how much is physical, I don't know. I certainly think that my favorite mug has physical advantages (shape and material possibly?) but also psychological advantages (the memories and attitudes I associate it with, the "comfort" factor of a big, solid mug, etc.). These wouldn't invalidate the effect in any way - as Steve is fond of saying, taste is subjective
